Contraband Arrest at Hays State Prison

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,985 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On March 11 at Hays State Prison, Visitor Shanell Young was processing in for visitation when the body scanner revealed a suspicious object hidden on her person. Young turned in sheets of unknown contraband when she was taken in for questioning. Young was arrested and transported to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s office.
