Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,639 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On January 29 at Telfair State Prison, two unidentified individuals were seen flying a drone over the facility. A search revealed that the drone dropped bundles of contraband. The two individuals were arrested and transported to the Telfair County Sherriff’s office. 

On January 26 at Smith State Prison, a vehicle was stopped near the facility. A search of the vehicle was conducted and a drone, along with packages of contraband were recovered. All four individuals in the vehicle were arrested and transported to the Tattnall County Sheriff's Office.
