Cyntavia Banks Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. –  The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Cyntavia Banks, Unit Manager at Central State Prison (SP) to Assistant Superintendent at Macon Transitional Center (TC) effective February 1, 2025. As Assistant Superintendent, Banks will be responsible for assisting the Superintendent with the daily operations of the facility, overseeing staff, and supervising approximately 157 male residents.

"Cyntavia has demonstrated a remarkable work ethic while working her way up through the ranks,” said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. “We are confident she will continue to uphold the values and mission of the agency while taking on her new role as Assistant Superintendent."

Banks began her career with the department in 2012 as a Correctional Officer and Tactical Squad Member at Washington State Prison (SP). In 2013, she transferred to Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison as a Diagnostic Medical Records Technician. In 2016, she was promoted to Offender Administration and was later promoted to team lead within that unit. In 2017, she transferred to Metro Reentry Facility where she was promoted through the ranks of Multifunctional Correctional Officer, Sergeant and Lieutenant. In 2021, she was promoted to Captain at Central SP, and in 2022, she was promoted to Unit Manager, where she currently serves.  

Banks holds an Associate degree in Law Enforcement from Thomas University and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Her departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Supervision I, II, and III, Management I, II, and III, Sergeants Academy, Special Operations Training, Lieutenant’s Academy, Initial Correctional Counselor Training, and Unit Manager Academy.
