New Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Georgia Diagnostic & Classification Prison
Alex Tillman Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Alex Tillman from Unit Manager to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison (GDCP), effective July 16, 2024. As Deputy Warden, he will oversee the delivery of educational programs, health services, library services, counseling programs, recreational services and the mental health services of male offenders housed at the facility.
“Alex has gained a wealth of correctional knowledge as he has worked his way up through the ranks while serving in varying care and treatment positions,” said Commissioner Oliver. “We are confident he will continue to lead with integrity as he takes on this essential role in overseeing vital programming for the offender population at GDCP.”
Tillman began his career with the GDC in 2005 as a Behavioral Health Counselor at Emanuel Probation Detention Center (PDC) and transitioned to Emanuel Transition Center (TC) in 2007. In 2011, he transferred back to Emanuel PDC, followed by a move to Smith TC in 2012, serving as a reentry specialist and employment manager. Tillman was promoted to Social Services Program Consultant III with the Office of Transitional Services in 2017, and transferred to Macon TC in 2019 as a Behavioral Health Counselor II. In 2021, he transferred to GDCP, as a Diagnostics Counselor, followed by a promotion in 2022 to Social Services Program Consultant III, and later that year was promoted to Unit Manager, where he currently serves.
He has completed the following departmental training: Initial Counselor Training, Reentry Specialist Training, Motivation for Change, Basic Supervision I, II, & III, Basic Management Training, Executive BCOT, and Culture Equation Workshop.
