Kevin Perry promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Kevin Perry to Deputy Warden of Security at Phillips State Prison, effective July 16, 2016. As Deputy Warden of Security, Perry will be responsible for supervising and managing 295 security staff members and 918 medium security male offenders. 

“Kevin is a is a dedicated employee who has excelled throughout his career with the Department,” said Commissioner Bryson.  “His drive will be greatly beneficial to both the staff and the offenders at Phillips State Prison.”

Perry began his career with the Department in 1993 as a Correctional Officer at Lee Arrendale State Prison. In 1994, he transferred to Augusta State Medical Prison (ASMP) as a Correctional Officer II. While serving at ASMP, Perry was promoted to Sergeant in 2002. Perry transferred to Phillips State Prison in 2004, and rose through the ranks as Lieutenant, Captain, and Unit Manager. In 2015, Perry was promoted to Assistant Superintendent at Clayton Transitional Center, where he most recently served.

Perry is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice through Reinhardt University. His departmental training consists of: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Professional Management Program (PMP), Advanced Management Training (AMT), Basic Counselor Training, PREA Compliance Manager Training, and Deputy Warden’s Academy.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
