FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of LaTonya King to Private Prison Monitor at Riverbend Correctional Facility (CF), effective February 1, 2023. As Private Prison Monitor, King will be responsible for monitoring the facility's operations to ensure that all contract conditions are met, and that the facility operates with a continuous focus on sanitation, safety, and security.

"King has an immense amount of experience in a variety of areas within the agency," said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. "We are confident that her knowledge and professionalism will serve her well in her new role at Riverbend CF." 

King began her career with the GDC in 2008 as a Correctional Officer at Augusta State Medical Prison (ASMP). During her tenure at ASMP, she was promoted to Sergeant and became a member of the TACT squad. In 2011, she transitioned to a clerk and secretary before being promoted to Administrative Assistant in 2018. She was promoted to Facilities Compliance Specialist in 2018 and North Regional Compliance Specialist in 2019. She was promoted to Unit Manager at ASMP in 2020, where she currently serves.  

King's departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Special Operations (CERT/TACT) Basic Training, Basic Management, Supervision I, II, and III, Unit Manager Training, and Effective Communication.
