Ronald Brawner Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Ronald Brawner to Warden at Baldwin State Prison effective August 1, 2019. As Warden Brawner will be responsible for overseeing approximately 360 staff members and 954 close-security male offenders.
“Brawner’s vast knowledge and 28 years of experience make him a great asset to the department,” said Commissioner Ward. “We are confident that he will continue to excel in this new position.”
Brawner began his career with the Department in 1991 as a Correctional Officer at Women’s Correctional Facility. In 1994, he was promoted to Sergeant at Pulaski State Prison (SP) and later that year he was promoted to Lieutenant at Dodge SP. In 1996, he transferred to Scott SP and in 1997 was promoted to Captain. He was promoted to Assistant Superintendent at August Transitional Center in 2002 and Superintendent in 2005. In 2012, Brawner accepted the position of Director with the Department of Juvenile Justice. Brawner returned to the GDC later in 2012 as the Unit Manager at Augusta State Medical Prison. In 2016, he was promoted to Private Prison Monitor at Riverbend Correctional Facility, where he currently serves.
Brawner has earned an Associates degree in criminal justice, a Bachelors degree in business management from Brenau University and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in organizational leadership from Brenau University. During his time with the Department, he has completed Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT); Performance Management Program (PMP) through Columbus State University and Basic Management Training (BMT).
