New Web-Based Application

FORSYTH, Ga. –  This month, the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) will unveil a new volunteer website and web-based application process, designed to allow greater efficiency, security, and functionality for individuals interested in volunteering within GDC facilities. Currently, there are more than 9,200 volunteers, trained to assist the offenders in many areas in facilities statewide.

“We recognize that we must ensure the processes for applying to volunteer in our facilities are convenient and up-to-date,” said Timothy C. Ward, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Corrections. “By offering their time and services, volunteers are making a positive difference in the lives of offenders, and they are a crucial part of our team.”

The improved process includes providing a dedicated web page within the existing GDC website, allowing potential volunteers the opportunity to submit their paperwork online rather than in person.  Videos will be made available, to include introductory information, assistance with navigating through the process, training videos,   and quizzes on the material. 

GDC offers many volunteer opportunities to include: institutional volunteers, mentors, educators, counselors, tutors, musicians, librarians, volunteer coordinators and ministerial leaders. For more information on becoming a volunteer, visit Volunteer Services page.
