New Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Smith State Prison

Vashti Brown Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Vashti Brown, Chief Counselor at Telfair State Prison to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Smith State Prison (SP), effective August 16th. As the Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment, Brown will be responsible for overseeing care and treatment for approximately 1600 close security male offenders.
“Ms. Brown’s years of commitment to GDC as Counselor will serve well in her new role as Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Smith State Prison,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier.
Brown began her career with the GDC in 2006 as a Secretary I at Telfair State Prison/Milan Unit. In 2007, she was promoted to a Secretary II with Care and Treatment and served in this position until she was promoted to a Counselor at Wilcox State Prison in 2012. She transferred to Telfair State Prison as a Counselor in 2013 and has served as Chief Counselor at Telfair since 2015.
Brown holds an associate’s degree in General Studies with a minor in Sociology from Georgia Military College and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix. She has completed Basic Counselor Training, Motivation for Change, Matrix ERS/RP, Re-entry Skills Building, SART Training, PREA Compliance Training, NIC Auditor Training, Supervision I, II and III, and Executive Basic Correctional Officer Training.
