FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) is investigating the death of an inmate at Hancock State Prison in Sparta, Ga.

On July 14 at approximately 2:50 p.m., Correctional Officers found inmate Felipe Diaz (GDC #1204634) unresponsive in his cell. Prison medical staff responded and administered CPR and at 3:22 p.m., Grady Emergency Medical Services arrived. Diaz was pronounced deceased at 6:36 p.m. by the Hancock County Coroner. GDC is conducting an investigation into the death, as standard procedure.

Diaz was sentenced to 15 years in Gwinnett County for armed robbery, with a maximum release date of 2019. Further information can be found on the GDC website at https://gdc.georgia.gov.
