Dr. Joseph Fowlkes recognized

FORSYTH, Ga. –  The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) honored Dr. Joseph Fowlkes of Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison (GDCP) as the Health Services Professional of the Year at the 14th Annual GDC Awards ceremony on June 19 at GDC headquarters in Forsyth, Ga.

Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 200 guests. Making the award presentation with Commissioner Greg Dozier was Chief of Staff Timothy C. Ward, Assistant Commissioners Ricky Myrick, Scott Poitevint, Jay Sanders, Randy Sauls, and Assistant Director of Professional Development Tim Williams and Director of Professional Standards Clay Nix.

“Dr. Fowlkes is an outstanding individual who provides leadership and outstanding clinical skills, while providing quality healthcare throughout our facilities,” said Assistant Commissioner of Health Services Randy Sauls. “He has exhibited stellar leadership skills and dedication to GCHC/GDC, and has been successful at providing direction and support to both the medical and security staff at a site with multiple, layered missions.”

The award recognizes a physician, psychiatrist, dentist, psychologist, advanced practice professional, nurse or other licensed/certified or non-licensed healthcare professional who provides direct or indirect services to offender-patients within GDC. The recipient of this award must show they excel in their disciplines by acting, behaving and leading to improve the quality of care, promote the delivery of care and/or contribute to the overall effectiveness of medical care delivered to an individual, prison, or agency.
