Deshawn Jones Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Deshawn Jones to Superintendent at Atlanta Transitional Center effective February 16, 2018. Jones will be responsible for overseeing 60 staff members and 250 male residents.

“Jones brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience that will help him to lead the facility, “said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier. “We are looking forward to watching the staff and facility grow under his leadership and direction.”

Jones began his career with the Department in 2006 as a Correctional Officer at Lee Arrendale State Prison. During his tenure at Lee Arrendale, he was placed on the Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT) and was promoted through the ranks of Sergeant, CERT Commander, Assistant Commander of the Statewide Honor Guard, Lieutenant, Uniform Committee Member, and Diagnostic Director. In 2016, he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent at Lee Arrendale Transitional Center, where he currently serves.

Jones has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT); CERT Basic Training; Sergeants Academy; Basic Management Training (BMT); Professional Management Program (PMP); POST Instructor Training; Effective Communication Training; Deputy Warden’s Academy and National Honor Guard Academy.

Jones has received over 20 awards to include the Commissioners Coin of Excellence, Special Operations Coin of Excellence, National Honor Guard Academy Coin and the Bobby Franklin Award.
