Inmate Death Being Investigated as Apparent Suicide

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) is investigating the death of an inmate at Philips State Prison in Buford, Ga.
On January 28 at 2:50 a.m., Correctional Officers found inmate Christopher Mauldin (GDC #1226262) unresponsive. Prison medical staff attempted to revive him and he was pronounced deceased at 3:36 a.m. by Emergency Medical Technicians. GDC is conducting an investigation into the death, as standard procedure.
Mauldin was sentenced to 12 years in 2009, in Carroll County, for Burglary, Entering Vehicle, and Theft by Taking. Then in 2015, in Carroll County, he was sentenced to 15 years for Burglary. Further information and photographs can be found on the GDC website at https://gdc.georgia.gov.
