Dudley Taylor Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Dudley Taylor to Deputy Warden of Security at Valdosta State Prison (SP) effective October 1, 2017. In conjunction with an additional Deputy Warden of Security, Taylor will be responsible for supervising and managing all security staff and handling the overall management and operations of the facility housing over 1,070 close-security male offenders. 

“Dudley is committed to ensuring the facility is operating safely and securely,” said Commissioner Dozier. “His knowledge in the field of corrections will continue to benefit our agency as he takes on his new role.”

Taylor began his career with the department in 1988 as a Correctional Officer at Valdosta SP.  In 1991, he was promoted to CERT Sergeant at Autry SP. During his tenure at Autry, he also served as a shift supervisor and Administrative Lieutenant. In 1996, Dudley was promoted to Captain, Chief of Security at Lee SP. After a brief break from GDC, Taylor returned to Valdosta SP in 2010 as a Correctional Officer, and was quickly promoted to a Sergeant. Dudley transferred to Probation Operations, in 2011, as a Sex Offender Surveillance Officer in the Southern Judicial Circuit. In 2014, he was promoted to Facility Investigator at Valdosta SP, with the Office of Professional Standards, and in 2016, he was promoted to Communications Analyst with the Criminal Intelligence Unit, where he currently serves.

Taylor has completed Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Probation Officer Training (BPOT), and Basic Management Training (BMT), and he is currently enrolled in the Professional Management Program (PMP). Taylor is also certified in Mental Health Crisis Intervention and has attended the Reid School of Interviews/Interrogations.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
