Jeff Coleman Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Jeff Coleman to Warden of Rogers State Prison, effective August 1, 2017. As Warden, Coleman is responsible for overseeing 280 staff members and1,380 medium security male offenders.

“Jeff has worked his way up the ranks from Correctional Officer to Warden,” said Commissioner Dozier. “I am confident in his ability to serve as Warden at Rogers State Prison.”

Coleman began his career with the Department in 1994 as a Correctional Officer at Johnson State Prison. During his tenure, he also served as Sergeant and Lieutenant. In 1999, he became a Special Investigator for the Department of Juvenile Justice, and then returned to GDC in 2003, as a Transport Officer for Johnson State Prison. Coleman was promoted to Chief of Security at Smith State Prison in 2006. In 2010, he became Deputy Warden of Security and Care & Treatment at Montgomery State Prison. Coleman was promoted to Superintendent at Emanuel Probation Detention Center, in 2015, where he most recently served.

Coleman has an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice from Thomas University. He has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Professional Management Program (PMP), Advanced Management Training (AMT), Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI), and Wardens Pre-Command. 

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
