36 Offenders Graduate

FORSYTH, Ga. – On June 1, 36 offenders were honored for receiving their General Education Diploma (GED) at Valdosta State Prison (SP) in Valdosta, Ga. Teaching staff at Valdosta SP provided instruction, and testing was administered by Wiregrass Technical College in Valdosta, Ga.

“Valdosta State Prison reached a record high in GED completions this Fiscal Year,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier. “We are proud of the dedicated and determined students and our hard-working education staff.”

The GED program at Valdosta SP delivers educational services to offenders who have yet to complete their high school education. Students must pass tests in four basic subject areas to acquire their GED: Mathematics, Reasoning through Language Art, Science and Social Studies.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
