55 Offenders Graduate

FORSYTH, Ga. – On May 26, 55 offenders were honored for receiving their General Education Diploma (GED) at Telfair State Prison (SP) in Helena, Ga. Teaching staff at Telfair SP provided instruction, and testing was administered by Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia, Ga.

“Education is a key step towards the success of our returning citizens,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier. “This program would not be possible without the hardworking staff at Telfair State Prison and our partners at Southeaster Technical College.”

The GED program at Telfair SP delivers educational services to offenders who have yet to complete their high school education. Students must pass tests in four basic subject areas to acquire their GED: Mathematics, Reasoning through Language Art, Science and Social Studies.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
