FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections is investigating the death of an inmate at Telfair State Prison. At approximately 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, Humberto Hernandez suffered serious injuries in a physical altercation with another offender. Hernandez succumbed to his injuries while enroute to the airfield to be transported to the hospital. 

The body of inmate Hernandez was transported to a state crime lab for an autopsy. The incident is under investigation and the cause of death is undetermined at this time. 

Inmate Hernandez was 41 years old and convicted of murder. He was serving a life sentence with the eligibility of parole.
