OJT certificates, GED Education Level completions, Associate Degree

FORSYTH, Ga. – On March 22, Macon Transitional Center (TC) hosted an Education Recognition Ceremony. One resident received an Associate’s Degree in Business Management, 12 residents received On-the-Job training (OJT) certificates, and eight residents completed one of the four Education Level tests required to receive a General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Of the eight Education Level completions, one resident was nominated for the National Adult Education Honor Society.

“We are proud to honor the educational milestones of the residents at Macon TC,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier, “Each resident is 60-180 days from release, and these programs help prepare them for a successful reentry.”

The Associate Degree in Business Management is offered to residents online through Ashworth College. For more information on this program, visit https://www.ashworthcollege.edu/associate-degrees/general-business/.

The GED program, offered to residents through Central Georgia Technical College, provides educational services to offenders who did not complete their high school education prior to incarceration. Residents must complete four Education Level tests to receive their GED: Mathematics, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. There were seven residents who passed the Mathematics portion and one who completed the Language Arts portion.

Through the OJT program, residents earn technical certificates while employed on a work assignment. The residents received certification in varying fields, including Automotive Detailer, Automotive Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance, Building Maintenance, and Laundry Worker.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
