Pulaski State Prison hosts graduation ceremony

FORSYTH, Ga. – On January 19, nine offenders completed the Moving On program at Pulaski State Prison in Hawkinsville, Ga. Each graduate received a certification of completion at the ceremony.

“Moving On identifies and addresses the needs of high-risk, high-need female offenders,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier. “This specialized program offers participants an opportunity to heal from past traumas, learn from their mistakes, and ultimately move on, to a positive and more productive future.”

Moving on is a gender responsive, cognitive based skill-building program for women at risk, who are involved with the criminal justice system. The curriculum is designed to enable female offenders to explore their pathway to criminal activity, build healthy relationships, and build a continuing and effective support system.  

To be considered for this program, offenders must have a five or more on the risks scale (arrest for any offense, arrest for any Felony offense, or arrest for violent/sex offenses) and a five or more on the needs scale (trauma, critical thinking, and substance abuse). Offenders must also be approximately 12-18 months away from their Tentative Parole Month (TPM) or Maximum Release Date (MRD), with the exception of two Lifers (offenders who were sentenced to life with or without parole) accepted into each class.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
