Marty Allen reassigned   

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the reassignment of Marty Allen to Warden of Georgia State Prison, effective August 1, 2016. As Warden, Allen will be responsible for overseeing 537 staff members and 1,937 special mission male offenders. 

“Marty has been an asset to the Department for 24 years,” said Commissioner Bryson. “I know he will continue to serve as a great example for both the Department and Georgia State Prison.” 

Allen began his career with the Department in 1992 as a Cadet at Autry State Prison. While serving at Autry State Prison, he was promoted to Correctional Officer I, Correctional Officer II, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and Deputy Warden of Security. Allen also served as CERT Sergeant and Tactical Squad Commander at Autry State Prison. In 1999, he served as a Special Investigator with Internal Investigations at the Department’s Central Office. Allen was promoted to Superintendent at Thomasville Diversion Center in 1996, and later transferred to Southwest Probation Detention Center. In 2008, he was assigned to Autry State Prison as Deputy Warden of Security. He was promoted to Warden at Dodge State Prison, in 2010. Two years later, he was reassigned to Warden at Autry State Prison. Allen became Warden of Valdosta State Prison, in 2013, where he most recently served. 

Allen has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Professional Management Program (PMP), Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI), Warden's Pre-Command, and Rehabilitation Training Instructor Course (RTIC).

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
