New Warden at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison

Eric Sellers reassigned

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the reassignment of Eric Sellers to Warden at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison (GDCP), effective July 1, 2016. As Warden, Sellers will be responsible for overseeing 488 staff members and 1,326 close security male offenders.

“Eric has a wide range of experience with the agency that will be of great benefit to the staff and inmates at GDCP,” said Commissioner Bryson. “We look forward to his continued success as he takes on his new assignment.”

Sellers began his career with the Department in 1989 as a Counselor/Probation Officer at I.W. Davis Probation Detention Center. In 1994, he transferred to the J.C. Larmore Probation Detention Center and was promoted to Senior Counselor in 1996. He was promoted, in 1998, to Assistant Superintendent at the North West Probation Detention Center, and in 2003 was promoted to Superintendent. Sellers transferred to Clayton Transitional Center in 2005. Later that year, he was promoted to Warden at Burruss Correctional Training Center. In 2009, he transferred to Phillips State Prison as Warden, and in 2014 was transferred to Hancock State Prison to serve in the same capacity.

Sellers earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Grambling State University and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration/Statistics. He has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Advanced Management Training (AMT), Warden’s Pre-Command, Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI), Professional Management Program (PMP), Hostage Negotiations, and Executive Leadership Training.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
