Sue Mickens Reassigned 

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the reassignment of Sue Mickens to Warden of Pulaski State Prison, effective July 1, 2016. As Warden, Mickens will be responsible for overseeing 215 staff members and 1,223 medium security female offenders. 

“Sue has served the Department and the state of Georgia for 25 years,” said Commissioner Bryson. “Her knowledge and experience will greatly benefit the administration and operation of Pulaski State Prison.”

Mickens began her career with the Department in 1991 as an Associate Counselor at Washington State Prison.  During her tenure at Washington, she rose through the ranks of OR Counselor in 1994, Senior Counselor in 1997, and Chief Counselor in 2004. She was promoted, in 2007, to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at the same facility. In 2013, Mickens was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Whitworth Women’s Facility. One year later, she was promoted to Warden at Emanuel Women’s Facility, where she currently serves.

Mickens earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science from Lane College. She has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Warden’s Pre-Command, Sex Offender Training, and Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment Academy. 

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
