Scott Crickmar Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Scott Crickmar to new Regional Director for the Southwest Region, effective July 1, 2016. Crickmar will be responsible for the oversight and management of 18 facilities throughout Southwest Georgia. 

“Scott’s leadership skills will truly benefit him in his new role as Regional Director,” said Commissioner Bryson. “He will have a great impact on the staff and operations of those 18 facilities within the Southwest region.”

Crickmar joined the Department in 2000 as a Counselor at Lee Arrendale State Prison. In 2003, he was promoted to Acting Chief Counselor. Crickmar was then promoted to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment, in 2007, at Phillips State Prison. In 2012, he was promoted to Warden of Walker State Prison, and was transferred to Hays State Prison in 2013, where he is currently serving. 

Crickmar is a United States Navy Veteran. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Elon College and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of North Carolina. He has completed the following departmental training: Basic Corrections Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), and Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI). 

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
