Annettia Toby promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Annettia Toby to new Warden at Hancock State Prison effective July 1, 2016. As Warden, Toby will be responsible for overseeing 357 staff members and 1,191 close security male offenders. 

“Annettia has worked her way up through the ranks since joining the Department 19 years ago,” said Commissioner Bryson.  “We are excited to see her excel in her new role as Warden at Hancock State Prison.”

Toby began her career with the Department in 1997 as a Correctional Officer at Telfair State Prison. She was promoted to Sergeant in 2001, Lieutenant in 2003, and Unit Manager in 2007. Toby was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security, in 2010, at Johnson State Prison. In 2012, she transferred to Telfair State Prison to work under the same capacity, and in 2014 transferred to Roger State Prison as Deputy Warden of Security, where she currently serves. 

Toby earned an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Southeastern Technical College. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Kaplan University, and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Phoenix. She has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT); Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI); Deputy Warden of Security Academy; POST Instructor Training, and Wardens Pre-Command.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
