Harris Hodges Honored with Legacy Award

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) awarded former GDC employee Harris Hodges, with the Legacy Award at the 12th Annual GDC Awards ceremony on June 9 at the GDC Headquarters in Forsyth, Ga.

“Harris has been a vital part in the transformation of Corrections,” said Commissioner Bryson. “His legacy will continue through the many lives he touched and mentored.”    

The Legacy Award is presented to an individual who has committed a lifetime of service to the Department and has throughout the years made significant contributions to the agency. 

Hodges dedicated more than 30 years to the Department of Corrections and the state of Georgia, starting his career as a Probation Officer in 1978. During his career, he served rose through the ranks and served as training director, facilities director, administration division deputy director and director, and retired as corrections division director. 

Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 200 guests. Making the award presentation with Chief of Staff Greg Dozier were Assistant Commissioner of Administration & Finance Scott Poitevint, Assistant Commissioner of Facilities Timothy C. Ward, Assistant Commissioner of Inmate Services Dr. L.C. ‘Buster’ Evans and keynote speaker Randall Godfrey.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
