Steven Lewis Promoted

Forsyth, GA. - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Steven Lewis to Chief Probation Officer for the Atlanta Judicial Circuit effective April 1, 2015. Lewis will be responsible for the oversight of 35 staff members and the supervision of felony probationers in the Atlanta Judicial Circuit.

"Steven has demonstrated great knowledge and professionalism in his career with the Department", said Commissioner Bryson. "We are excited to see him serve in is new role in the Atlanta Judicial Circuit".

Lewis began his career with the Department in 2000 as a Counselor at Wilcox State Prison, working with the Mental Health and Sex Offender population. In 2003, Lewis was promoted to Senior Counselor of Wilcox SP. In 2004, he transferred to Probation Operations, serving as a Probation Officer with the Cordele Judicial Circuit. In 2008, Lewis was promoted to Probation Officer III in the Clayton Judicial Circuit. In 2012, Lewis transferred to the Atlanta Judicial Circuit, working as a Probation Officer III and serving as leader of High Supervision team as well as in the Specialized Supervision Unit of the same circuit. Lewis transferred back to the Clayton Judicial Circuit in 2014, where he has most recently served as a Probation Officer III.

Lewis earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Albany State University and a Master's degree in Public Safety from Columbus State Command College. During his career with the Department, Lewis has completed the following training courses: Basic Management Training (BMT), Advanced Management Training (AMT), Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI), Warden's & Chief's Pre-Command and is POST IT certified.
