New Deputy Warden of Security Named at Burruss Correctional Training Center

Tracy McIntyre Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. -- Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Tracy McIntyre as Deputy Warden of Security at Burruss Correctional Training Center effective March 16, 2015. Formerly serving as Unit Manager of Macon State Prison, McIntyre will now be responsible for supervising and managing all security staff and the overall management and operation of the facility that is located in Forsyth, Ga. Burruss CTC currently houses 800 medium security male offenders consisting of adults, juveniles and a probation boot camp.

“Tracy has worked his way through the ranks since joining the Department in 1996,” said Commissioner Bryson. “I am confident that his experience will be beneficial to the staff at Burruss Correctional Training Center.”

McIntyre began his career with the Department in 1996 as a Correctional Officer at Dooly State Prison. He served as a member of the Tactical Squad from 1997 until August of 1998 when he was promoted to Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT) Officer at Dooly SP. In 2001, McIntyre was promoted to Sergeant, and in 2002, he was promoted to Lieutenant at Dooly SP. As a Lieutenant, he was also the Assistant Commander of the Tactical Squad and served as a Squad Leader during the 2004 G8 Summit in Sea Island.  In 2005, McIntyre was promoted to Chief of Security at Dooly SP.  In 2011, he was promoted to Unit Manager at Macon State Prison, where he most recently served.

McIntyre earned an Associate’s degree in Law Enforcement and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Thomas University, where he is also currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Public Administration. During his time with the Department, McIntyre has completed the following departmental training courses: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT); Effective Communications Training; Basic Management Training (BMT); Professional Management Training (PMP); and POST IT. 

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers.  It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
