New Director of Reentry Services Named

FORSYTH, Ga. — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Mark Morris as Director of Reentry Services effective November 16, 2014.
“Mark has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience from the various positions he has held within the Department,” said Commissioner Owens. “He is truly an asset to our Department and I look forward to his leadership within this new role.
Morris began his career with the Department in 1990 as a Probation Officer I for the Savannah Probation Office. In 1999, Morris was promoted to Probation Officer III for the Ocmulgee Circuit. In 2005, Morris was promoted to Chief Probation Officer of the Macon Circuit. In 2009, he was promoted to Field Operations Manager of the Southwest Area. In July 2010, Morris was promoted to Deputy Director of Probation Operations, Administration Support, where he most recently served.
Morris earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Mercer University and a Master’s degree in Public Safety Administration from the Georgia Law Command College at Columbus State University. During his time with the Department he has completed the following training courses; Basic Management Training, Correctional Leadership Institute and Pre-Command.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000
state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
