New Probation Field Operations Manager at Northwestern Region

Susan Phillips Assigned to Northwestern Region
Forsyth - Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of Susan Phillips as Field Operations Manager of the Northwest Region effective June 16, 2013. As Probation Field Operations Manager, Phillips will oversee all probation operations and will act as the Appointing Authority for Chief Probation Officers, Probation Officers and staff in eleven judicial circuits in the Northwestern area of the state.
"Susan is an exceptional leader and dedicated employee," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "Her wealth of knowledge and experience will greatly benefit the Northwestern area."
Phillips began her career with the Department in 1992 as a Probation Officer in the Clayton Judicial Circuit. In 1998, she was promoted to Probation Officer III and began a Developmental Assignment in 2007 as the Director of Public Affairs. In 2008, she was appointed to Chief Probation Officer for the Jackson Probation Office. Phillips was then selected for Developmental Assignment as the Manager of Interstate Compact in 2011. She was appointed in 2012 as Coordinating Chief Probation Officer for the Atlanta Judicial Circuit, where she most recently served.
Phillips is a graduate of the University of South Florida and received her Master's degree in Business Administration from Webster University. She has completed Pre-Command and Corrections Leadership Institute and is an active member of the Georgia Probation Association.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
