Mike Kraft Promoted

Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Mike Kraft as the new Director of Probation Operations effective May 1, 2013. In this capacity, Mike will oversee statewide probation operations of 113 probation offices and over 160,000 state probationers.

"Mike has been a great asset to the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "We look forward to his leadership as he assumes his new role."

Mike began his career as a Probation Officer in the Central DeKalb Probation Office in 1990. He has since served as Probation Officer II, Intensive Probation Officer, Specialized Probation Officer and Probation Officer III in Stone Mountain, Piedmont, Northern, Alcovy and Western Circuits. Mike was promoted in 2009 to Probation Field Operations Manager for the Northeast area of the state. In January 2012, Mike was promoted to Deputy Director of Probation Operations where he most recently served.

Mike has a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia and holds a Masters in Public Administration from Columbus State University. Mike is a POST Certified Instructor and Firearms Instructor. He is a member of the Georgia Probation Association and has previously served as President and Board Member.

The GDC has one of the largest Prison Systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
