Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,236 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On May 20 at Georgia State Prison, civilian Ashley Brown was searched after entering the facility. Security staff discovered 2.3 oz. of methamphetamine. Brown was arrested by the GDC Office of Professional Standards.
On May 20, Telfair County officers conducted a traffic stop near Telfair State Prison. During the stop, the officers discovered 11 cell phones and 404 grams of tobacco. Civilians Xavier Tramall and Nahjee Rakhime were arrested by the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office.
On May 15 at Wilcox State Prison, security staff noticed civilian Lashanca Shealy in the woods near the facility and contacted the Abbeville Police Department. After searching the area, security staff discovered a package and 2 bags that consisted of 7 packages wrapped in green tape. Civilian Shealy was arrested by the Abbeville Police Department.
