Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,900 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On June 4 at Johnson State Prison, Visitor Renee Beringer attempted to attend visitation when she could not clear the metal detector. When questioned, Visitor Beringer willingly handed over a bundle of tobacco. Beringer was arrested and transported to the Johnson County Jail.
On June 3 at Dodge State Prison, two individuals were seen near the facility’s wood line. A search found Civilian Brakaya Gavin and an unidentified male. The following contraband was recovered: cellphones, chargers, tobacco, rolling paper and a drone with the controller. Both civilians were arrested and transported to the Dodge County Jail.
On May 31 at Rogers State Prison, a vehicle was seen parked on facility grounds. Further investigation found civilians Preston Williams and Steven Dean with marijuana. Williams and Dean were arrested and transported to the Tattnall County Jail.
