Mistie Jones Promoted

Forsyth — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Mistie Jones to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Macon State Prison effective September 1, 2013. The facility is located in Oglethorpe, Georgia. Jones will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of medical, mental health, education and counseling services of more than 1,700 male inmates.

“Mistie has gone above and beyond the call of duty,” said Commissioner Owens.  “Her training and experience will serve her well in her new role.”

Jones began her career with the Department in 1994 as a Correctional Officer at Macon State Prison.  In 1998, she was promoted to Sergeant and then to Lieutenant in 1999. Jones was promoted, in 2006, to Chief of Security at Western Pre-Release Center. In 2011, she was promoted to Unit Manager at Central State Prison where she most recently served.

Jones is a 14-year Army Reserve veteran and has served seven years to date in the Air Force National Guard. She is currently enrolled at Kaplan University, where she is pursuing her Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers.  It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
