Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,626 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On January 2 at Wilcox State Prison, Civilian Markeevious Tomlain was arrested by the Abbeville Police Department after he was found near the facility with a handgun and a duffle bag containing contraband. 

On January 2 at Rogers State Prison, Tattnall County Sheriff's Department conducted a traffic stop near the facility. The Officer detected a strong smell of marijuana and searched the vehicle, where 2 plastic bags wrapped in electrical tape were discovered. Three civilians were placed under arrest.
