Contraband Arrest at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,954 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On November 9 at Calhoun State Prison, a vehicle was spotted parked near the facility. With the assistance of Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, the GDC K9 Unit was able to locate two civilians and the following contraband: marijuana, meth, cellphones, and tobacco. Civilians Kawame Crump and Donald Williams were arrested and transported to the Calhoun County Jail.
On November 8 at Wilcox State Prison, a drone was observed flying over the facility. The Abbeville Police Department conducted a traffic stop near the facility and a search found a drone controller and a drone 20 yards from the stopped vehicle. Civilians Levi Brown, Cameron Driver and Deserea Armour were arrested and transported to the Wilcox County Jail.
On November 8 at Wilcox State Prison, GDC K9 unit tracked four civilians near the facility who were located with the following contraband: a drone, marijuana, tobacco, cocaine, cellphones, cigarettes, cigars, rolling paper, and ecstasy. Civilians Ollie Colvard, April Walker, Evan Freeman, and Noah Johnson were arrested transported to Wilcox County Jail.
