Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,425 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On July 26 at Washington State Prison, Officer Arzavier Renfroe could not clear the front entry and was found with tobacco on his person. He was arrested by Washington County Sheriff's Department and transported to Washington County Jail.

On July 25 at Wilcox State Prison, 4 individuals were seen behind the facility, and apprehended with packages which contained tobacco, marijuana and cell phones.

On July 25 at Johnson State Prison, Civilian Trayvon Rozier was placed under arrest after by Johnson County Sheriff’s Office after he was found on facility grounds.  The following contraband was found on his person: marijuana, tobacco and cell phones.

On July 25 at Autry State Prison, Officer Stacy Simpson failed to clear security when an unknown object was detected through the x-ray machine. After further investigation cell phones were discovered. Officer Simpson was placed under arrest by Mitchell County Sheriff's Office.

On July 20 at Hancock State Prison, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a vehicle near the facility, and after a search revealed marijuana and tobacco. Civilians De'Auntae Carroll and Tavarus Lewis were arrested and transported to the Hancock County Jail.
