Contraband Arrest at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,430 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On February 7 at Autry State Prison, a person was observed on the facility’s grounds with a backpack. Henry Jackson was arrested and transported to Mitchell County Jail.

On February 6 at Telfair State Prison, a person was found outside the facility’s perimeter with cellphones, hotspots, and tobacco. The unidentified suspect was arrested and transported to the Telfair County Jail.

On February 6 at Wilcox State Prison, two unidentified civilians were observed near the facility. A traffic stop found the first civilian, James Bryant, and a search of the vehicle was conducted. The canine unit was able to locate the second civilian, Traquan Bangs, with the following contraband cellphones, chargers, and tobacco. Civilian Bryant and Civilian Bangs were arrested and transported to Wilcox County Jail.

On February 1 at Ware State Prison, a suspect was spotted near the facility’s perimeter.  A search found Brandon Ransom with the following contraband on his person: meth, ecstasy, marijuana, smartphones, watch, phone chargers, cigars, earbuds, tobacco, counterfeit money, hats, and money. Ransom was arrested and transported to the Ware County Jail.

On February 1 at Rogers State Prison, a traffic stop was conducted near the facility’s fire station. A search found a package of contraband; Civilian Nathan Smith was arrested and transported to Tattnall County Jail.
