Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,400 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On December 27 at Telfair State Prison, an unidentified individual was found trying to flee from the facility’s wood line. A traffic stop also found two more unidentified individuals with the following contraband in their vehicle: knives, lighters, charging blocks, chargers, headphones, cell phones, marijuana, and tobacco. All three individuals were arrested and transported to the Telfair County Jail.
On December 21 at Ware State Prison, a vehicle was seen near the facility. A traffic stop found two men with cell phones and chargers. Both men were arrested and transported to the Ware County Jail. During the vehicle search, a subject was seen on the facility’s grounds. A search of the area found Civilians Montana Askew and Malik Faletin. They were found with the following contraband: Methamphetamine, tetrahydrocannabinol, tobacco, cell phones, chargers, saw blades, wrench set, J-B Weld, USB cables, and earbuds. Civilians Askew and Faletin were arrested and transported to Ware County Sheriff's Department.
