Gwen Lake Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Gwen Lake to Deputy Warden of Administration at Macon State Prison, effective March 1, 2016. As Deputy Warden, Lake is responsible for overseeing the Business Office, Property/Supply Operations, Maintenance and Food Service departments at the facility housing over 1,700 close security male inmates located in Oglethorpe, Ga.

“Gwen is a dedicated employee with a vast wealth of knowledge,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson. “I am confident her experience will greatly benefit Macon State Prison.”

Lake began her career with the Department in 1997 as a Correctional Officer at Macon State Prison. She served in this capacity until 2001, when she joined the military. In 2002, she returned to Macon State Prison as a Correctional Officer. During her tenure, she served as Sergeant, Clerk II and Accountant Paraprofessional. In 2015, she was promoted to Business Manager, where she most recently served.

Lake is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. During her career with the Department, she has completed the following training courses: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Sergeant’s Academy, Basic Management Training (BMT), Basic Purchasing, and Advanced Purchasing.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
