Georgia Escapee Captured; on the run for almost 48 years

GDC Fugitive Apprehension Unit and U.S. Marshals joint effort
FORSYTH, GA. –On May 9, at 9:30am, the U.S. Marshals arrested Robert Stackowitz in Sherman, Connecticut. Stackowitz escaped from the Carroll County Correctional Institution on August 22, 1968. He was serving a 17-year sentence for Robbery by Force after being convicted in Henry County in April of 1966.
Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Fugitive Apprehension unit reopened this cold case five months ago, and began a comprehensive investigation which lead the U.S. Marshals to his location in Connecticut.
