Cedric Taylor Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Cedric Taylor to North Regional Director, effective October 1, 2018. As the North Regional Director, Taylor will oversee the management of 16 facilities throughout the North Georgia Region.

“In Taylor’s 26 years with the department he has gained invaluable knowledge and experience,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozer. “We are confident that under his leadership the North Region will continue to carry out the Department’s mission of managing safe and secure facilities.”   

Taylor began his career with the Department in 1992 as a Correctional Officer at Hays State Prison. He was promoted to Sergeant at Hays State Prison in 1995, and in 1998, he was promoted to Training Instructor for the Special Operations Training Unit. In 2007, he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Hays State Prison and in 2009 he was promoted to Manager of Special Operations. In 2010, he was promoted to Warden at Autry State Prison, and in 2012 he was reassigned to Valdosta State Prison in the same capacity. In 2013, Taylor joined the Department of Juvenile Justice and served as the Director of Augusta Youth Detention Center. He returned to GDC the following year, to serve as Warden of Baldwin State Prison. He currently serves as Warden at Phillips State Prison since January 2018.   

Taylor received an Associates degree from Marion Military Institute and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Thomas University.
