FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) is investigating the death of an inmate at Georgia State Prison in Reidsville, Ga.

On July 26 at approximately 6:04 p.m., Correctional Officers found inmate Niqua Thomas (GDC #1000484572)

unresponsive in his cell. Prison medical staff responded and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and at 6:32 p.m., Emergency Medical Services arrived and continued CPR. Thomas was pronounced deceased at 6:40 p.m. by the facility physician. GDC is conducting an investigation into the death, as standard procedure.

Thomas was sentenced to 12 years in Dekalb County for armed robbery, with a maximum release date of April 2020.
