New Deputy Warden of Administration Named at Johnson State Prison

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Ada Messer to Deputy Warden of Administration at Johnson State Prison (SP) effective November 16, 2017. As Deputy Warden of Administration, Messer will be responsible for overseeing the Business Office, Property/Supply Operations, Maintenance and Food Service departments at the facility housing over 1,600 medium security adult male offenders in Wrightsville, Ga.
“Ada has dedicated 17 years of faithful service to the Department in a variety of positions at Dodge SP and GDC Headquarters,” said Commissioner Dozier. “Her experience speaks to her vast knowledge in Corrections and I know she will be a great asset to the staff and offenders at Johnson State Prison.”
Messer began her career with the Department in 2000 as a Secretary in the Maintenance department at Dodge State Prison. In 2002, she was promoted to an Accountant Paraprofessional in Engineering and Construction Service. At the same facility, in 2005, she was promoted to an Administrative Operations Coordinator II. She then transferred to the Procurement Office at GDC Headquarters in 2011. The following year, Messer was promoted to her current position as a Purchasing/Procurement Officer II.
Messer has received a certificate in Computer Science from Heart of Georgia Technical College and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Reinhardt University. She has completed the following departmental training: Basic Management Training (BMT), the Professional Management Program (PMP), and Governmental Accounting I & II. She also holds the following certifications through the Department of Administrative Services: Georgia Certified Procurement Manager, Georgia Certified Procurement Administrator, Georgia Certified Purchasing Card Administrator, and Certified in Request for Proposal.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
