Ryan Beland Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. –  The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Ryan Beland, Superintendent at Helms Facility to Special Assistant to the Warden at Rutledge State Prison (SP), effective October 1, 2024. As Special Assistant to the Warden, Beland will assist the Warden with daily operations of the facility and management of staff and offenders.

"Ryan has demonstrated exceptional leadership and work ethic in each role he has held with the agency," said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. "We are confident he will continue to uphold the mission in his new role as Special Assistant to the Warden."

Beland began his career with the Department in 2011 as a Correctional Officer at Charles D. Hudson Transitional Center, and in 2013 he was promoted to Counselor. In 2017, he was promoted to Senior Counselor at Metro Reentry Facility, and in 2020 to Assistant Superintendent at Atlanta Transitional Center. In 2022, he was promoted to Superintendent at Helms Facility, where he currently serves.

Beland has earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Public Safety Administration from Columbus State University. His departmental training includes Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Counselor Training, Basic Mental Health Training, Crisis Intervention Team Training, Effective Communication Training, Supervision I, II, and III, Management I, II, and III, Assistant Superintendent Training, and Warden’s Pre-Command Training.
