Veronica Stewart Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Veronica Stewart, Special Assistant to the Warden at Telfair State Prison (SP) to Warden at Washington SP, effective June 16, 2024. As Warden, Stewart will be responsible for overseeing all staff members and approximately 1,558 medium-security male offenders.

 “Veronica has shown tremendous dedication to the Department during her tenure,” said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. “We are confident her correctional knowledge will continue to serve her well in her new role as Warden.”

Stewart began her career with the GDC in 2007 as a Correctional Officer at Telfair SP. During her tenure at Telfair SP, she was promoted through the ranks of Sergeant in 2012, and Lieutenant in 2014. She was promoted to Medical Unit Manager at Calhoun SP in 2018, and in 2019, she transferred to Telfair as Unit Manager. In 2020, she was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Telfair SP and in 2023, she was promoted to Special Assistant to the Warden, where she currently serves. 

Stewart attended Georgia Southern University and has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training, Sergeants Academy, Supervision I, II and III, Effective Communication Training, Deputy Warden’s Training, and Warden’s Pre-Command.
