Anthony Dewberry reassigned

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the reassignment of Anthony Dewberry to Deputy Warden of Security at Lee Arrendale State Prison (LASP), effective October 1, 2016. As Deputy Warden, Dewberry will be responsible for supervising and managing 193 security staff and 1,371 special mission female offenders.

“Anthony has been a dedicated employee to our agency for over 25 years,” said Commissioner Bryson. “His knowledge in the field of corrections will continue to benefit our agency in his continued role as Deputy Warden of Security at LASP.”

Dewberry began his career with the Department in 1991 as a Correctional Officer at Metro State Prison (SP).  In 1994, Dewberry was promoted to Sergeant at Metro SP, and in 1997, he was promoted to Lieutenant at Metro SP.  In 2002, Dewberry was promoted to Chief of Security at Northwest Probation Detention Center. In January 2006, Dewberry was promoted to Unit Manager of Lee Arrendale State Prison (LASP), where he also served as the Acting Deputy Warden of Security from July 2006 through October 2006. Dewberry was promoted in 2014, to Deputy Warden of Security at Hays State Prison.

Dewberry’s departmental training consists of: Basic Management Training (BMT), Professional Management Program (PMP), Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI), Advance Management Training (AMT) and Warden’s Pre-Command Course. 

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
