Stanley Williams reassigned

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the reassignment of Stanley Williams to Warden of Valdosta State Prison, effective August 1, 2016. As Warden, Williams will be responsible for overseeing 419 staff members and 1,312 close security male offenders. 

“Stanley is committed to helping us carry out our mission of building PRIDE in ourselves and our agency,” said Commissioner Bryson. “We look forward to the leadership and experience he will bring to Valdosta State Prison.”

Williams began his career with the Department in 1985 as a Correctional Officer at Rivers State Prison. In 1992, he was promoted to Sergeant at Washington State Prison. While at Washington, he served as Lieutenant and Captain. In 1997, he was promoted to Unit Manager at Rogers State Prison, and transferred to Georgia State Prison as Captain in 1998. He was promoted, in 2000, to Unit Manager at Baldwin State Prison. In 2004, he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at the same facility. He was reassigned, in the same capacity, to Bostick State Prison in 2005. From January to April 2007, and October to November 2008, he served as acting Warden at Bostick State Prison. In 2009, he accepted a Deputy Warden of Security position at Hancock State Prison. While at Hancock State Prison, he was acting Warden from March until July 2010.  In July 2010, Williams became Warden at Lee State Prison, and in March 2011, he was reassigned to Smith State Prison. In 2015, he was reassigned as Warden of Georgia State Prison, where he most recently served. 

Williams earned a Criminal Justice Certificate from Columbus State University. He has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Professional Management Program (PMP), Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI), Pre-Command Pre-Warden training and new warden training.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
