Lee Evidence Based Prison Holds First Family Day

FORSYTH, Ga. – On November 3, Lee Evidence Based Prison, located in Leesburg, Ga., hosted their first prison wide Family Day. The event was attended by an estimated 800 family members.

“Family Day events help to encourage family bonds and keep offenders focused in the right direction,” said

Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier. “The offenders are allowed to spend time with their family and focus on building relationships for their entry back into society.”

During this event, family members and their incarcerated loved ones participated in activities such as face painting, fishing, bean bag toss, badminton, basketball, bocce ball and kids had the chance to play in a bouncy house. The facility plans to host another family day in 2018, in order to continue this necessary bonding time between the offenders and their families.

Lee State Prison is an evidence-based facility, which was remissioned in June 2015. This facility provides offenders a two-year, four-phase program that encourages offenders to change the way they think, so that they can change their behavior and return to society as productive citizens.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
