Walker State Prison honors graduates
FORSYTH, Ga. – Walker State Prison started the New Year with the first class of graduates from the Faith & Character Based Program. The graduation ceremony was held on January 15, 2016 for 32 inmates housed at the facility located in Rock Spring, Ga.
“This is another example of the great strides we are making for our returning citizens and offender population,” said Commissioner Bryson. “It is through the hard work and dedication from our staff as well as our strong partnerships with outside agencies that we are truly able to impact the lives of these offenders and returning citizens.”
Walker State Prison is the first and only Faith & Character Based Prison in the state of Georgia. Inmates are offered a program that encourages them to seek a better way of life, through core curriculum, consisting of the following four phases: Foundation, Discovery, Transformation, and Transition. Inmates who participate in this program must reach five requirements to graduate. These requirements include class attendance, 150 hours of community services, submit journal entries at least four days per week, attend Brothers Creed, and must complete eight elective classes.
